FAQ

common questions about ONE

What is ONE?

It’s an apartment community with great amenities, designed especially with University of Illinois students in mind. ONE features spacious 1 to 4 bedroom furnished apartments with available private bathrooms, optional hardwood-style floors, in-unit laundry and more, plus a full set of community features such as two fitness centers, game rooms, indoor and outdoor pools, sports courts, tanning beds and more.  All set among green spaces just minutes from the UIUC campus, with direct daily bus service on the 22 Illini.

What is the difference between ONE North and ONE South?

ONE is comprised of North and South sections, located a block apart from each other on Lincoln Avenue, about one mile north of UIUC. Residents can enjoy all the amenities of both parts of the community.

Is ONE part of the University of Illinois?

ONE is a privately owned and professionally managed community. Click here for more information about the management and ownership.

Can I live with friends, or can you match me with roommates?

You can select your roommate(s), or you can apply on your own and we can match you with other students. Applicants answer a short list of lifestyle questions to help in the matching process.

What are per-person contracts?

Instead of requiring all roommates to sign a joint lease, each person at ONE has their own individual contract, with one person per bedroom. This means you are only responsible for paying for yourself — not your roommates. Even if a roommate moves out or other bedrooms in your apartment are empty, you only pay the rate for your bedroom.

What is included in the rate?

Each resident at ONE pays a flat rate that includes:

  • A full set of furniture
  • High-speed Internet in each bedroom, Wi-Fi in clubhouse areas
  • Satellite TV service with HBO and Big Ten Network
  • Flat-panel HDTV (ONE South only)
  • Water/sewer ($10/person/month allowance)
  • Washer and dryer in each apartment
  • 24-hour on-site management
  • Community features — pools, fitness centers, tanning, etc.

Are private bathrooms available?

Yes. Most bedrooms at ONE feature a private “in-suite” bathroom. In 3 and 4 bedroom apartments at ONE South only, two residents share a bathroom. In the 3-bedroom at ONE South, the third resident has a suite with a private bathroom and study.

Are the apartments furnished?

Yes, all apartments include a complete set of furniture, including full-size beds, dressers, desks and chairs, leather-style sofa and armchair, coffee table, side table and a dining set or counter stools. To see a sample of the furniture and other finishes, please visit our model apartments.

When do the contracts start and end?

The standard term is August 22, 2018 to August 2, 2019, with payments made in 12 equal installments. Limited semester terms and other alternate dates may be available; please inquire with our staff.

Can I pay by credit card?

Yes. Residents can pay online 24 hours per day, by credit card or ACH electronic checking. ONE also offers automatic payment by either credit card or checking account — just fill out one page, one time and payments will be made automatically. There is a convenience fee for one-time online payments, but automatic recurring payments are always free.

Will my financial aid cover charges at ONE?

Your living costs at ONE can be covered by financial aid, just like on-campus housing. Any available financial aid funds, after university charges are satisfied, are released to the student for non-institutional expenses, such as off-campus housing. These funds can be used to pay charges at ONE. Normal payment deadlines will continue to apply.

Is ONE open to non-students?

Most of the residents at ONE are students at the University of Illinois or Parkland College, and the per-person contracts are also designed with students in mind. Nonetheless, ONE is an Equal Opportunity housing provider and welcomes applications from non-students. Family members are welcome as well, subject to occupancy limits. Because of the need to match student apartment-mates, non-students must apply together with enough apartment-mates to fill an apartment.

What kind of safety and security are provided?

ONE offers electronic controlled access to each apartment, plus locking bedroom doors. Community courtesy patrols are provided at select times, plus security cameras are located in certain areas. Management staff are also on-site 24×7 and can be reached by a 24-hour phone number.

What are the policies on pets, smoking and guests?

ONE is a no-pets community. All indoor areas of ONE are smoke-free. Guests are welcome at all times, subject to the consent of apartment-mates and security considerations. Overnight guests are welcome, with limits on the number of days and guests.

Can I park my vehicle at ONE?

ONE offers free surface parking for all residents. Limited free guest parking is available as well. At ONE North, residents can also choose a reserved, covered parking space for a small fee.

What other transportation options will I have?

The Champaign-Urbana MTD 22 Illini bus stops right at ONE North and ONE South every 10 minutes, and then goes straight to the University of Illinois campus; the trip takes about 9 minutes. The bus has extended hours through 3am or 5am throughout the week while school is in session, and students ride free. Or walk or bike the one mile to U of I. To Parkland College, the MTD 7 Grey bus gets there in about 30 minutes.

Can I see a model apartment?

Yes. Please request an appointment for a personal tour, or just stop by to see us and we’ll be happy to show you the community.
